Apply for MBA and International Master of Accountancy in Canada

MBA (International Student Program)

We developed our MBA (ISP) to best serve the needs of international students.  This full-time program begins with a four-week Business English program to help our incoming students polish the professional language skills and vocabulary that they will need to be successful in a Canadian graduate business program.  MBA ISP students then study for four consecutive graduate terms that lead them to complete their coursework in seventeen months (eg. August 2010 to December 2011).  MBA ISP students may choose to join the co-op/internship option of their program and pursue a four-month work placement in Canada immediately following the completion of their studies (eg. beginning in January 2012).  In this program, we have specifically put the option of the co-op work placement at the conclusion of the coursework to allow our international students the flexibility to return to their home countries more quickly if they choose not to participate in co-op.  Students in this program may choose to take a general MBA or pursue a specialization in one of accounting, finance or marketing.

It should be noted that graduates of our MBA ISP receive the same degree as graduates of our traditional MBA program – the degree says MBA.

Entry requirements for the MBA ISP include the equivalent of a Canadian B average in a four-year honours degree in any discipline.  We also require a minimum English language proficiency score of at least 80 on the TOEFL ibt or 6.5 on the IELTS.  While work experience is not required for entry to this program, it would certainly be an asset to any application.  Applicants to the MBA ISP do not need to provide a GMAT exam. Other documentation such as reference letters, a resume and a personal statement are also required.  Where possible, we will also complete an interview in person with the candidate – however, a telephone interview is also acceptable.

An MBA ISP student would pay total tuition of $37,000 CDN (based on 2010/2011 fees).  There is an additional charge of $975 CDN for the mandatory Business English program.  All ancillary fees, textbook costs and living expenses (including health insurance) are the responsibility of the student.

International Master of Accountancy

Our IMAcc program has also been designed with the needs of international students in mind.  Similar to the MBA ISP, this program begins with a mandatory four-week Business English program to assist our new students in honing their professional business language skills prior to beginning their further studies.  The students then proceed to our unique Transition Term.  This standard four-month term focuses on building knowledge of North American accounting and related business principles.  As its name would indicate, the term is designed to effectively “transition” students from the accounting approaches learned in their home countries to the North American style.  Following the Transition Term, students complete two consecutive terms of graduate study in accounting and related subject areas.  The program is lock-step and specializations are not available.  IMAcc students also have the opportunity to participate in a co-op/internship option at the conclusion of their academic coursework.  As with the MBA ISP, co-op work placements are paid and are usually four-months in duration.  The IMAcc coursework is complete within 12 months (eg. August 2010 to July 2011) with the optional co-op work placement to follow (eg. beginning in September 2011).

It should be noted that graduates of our IMAcc receive the same degree as graduates of our traditional MAcc program – the degree says Master of Accountancy.

Entry requirements for the IMAcc include the equivalent of a Canadian B average in a four-year honours degree with a major in accounting (ie. at least eight or more accounting and related courses).  We also require a minimum English language proficiency score of at least 80 on the TOEFL ibt or 6.5 on the IELTS.  While work experience is not required for entry to this program, it would certainly be an asset to any application.  Applicants to the IMAcc do not need to provide a GMAT exam. Other documentation such as reference letters, a resume and a personal statement are also required.  Where possible, we will also complete an interview in person with the candidate – however, a telephone interview is also acceptable.

An IMAcc student would pay total tuition of $28,000 CDN (based on 2010/2011 fees).  There is an additional charge of $975 CDN for the mandatory Business English program.  All ancillary fees, textbook costs and living expenses (including health insurance) are the responsibility of the student.

Professional Masters Preparation Program – Business Stream

The PMPC program is designed for international students who are interested in pursuing graduate business studies but lack the appropriate language level to be successful with an pplication.  Essentially, the PMPC is an English-language driven bridging program.  When a student is admitted to the PMPC, they are also given conditional admission to the MBA ISP  or IMAcc for the following entry year.  The conditions, of course, involve completing the PMPC and achieving an acceptable language score for graduate program entry.  Many students are very interested in obtaining both PMPC admission and MBA ISP or IMAcc conditional admission offers together.

The PMPC is eight-months in duration.  During the first four-month semester, students will focus on professional language preparation and adaptation to western culture.  In the second four-month semester, students will continue to develop language skills and complete three undergraduate foundational business courses.

Entry requirements to the PMPC are the same as those for the two graduate programs noted above – with one exception.  The minimum English language proficiency score for the PMPC is 61 on the TOEFL ibt or 5.0 on the IELTS.

Certificate in Administrative Studies

The CAS program is designed for students who are interested in pursuing graduate business studies but lack the appropriate undergraduate overall average to be successful with an application.  When a student is admitted to the CAS, they are also given conditional admission to the MBA ISP for the following entry year.  The condition, of course, involves completing the CAS with specified acceptable academic results.  The CAS is also an option for those students who completed a three-year undergraduate degree with the equivalent of Canadian B standing.

The CAS is eight-months in duration.  During their two terms, students will complete foundational courses in key areas of business.  Students will also have the opportunity to choose two elective courses.  The opportunity to make elective selections enables our students to customize their certificate to some degree.

Entry requirements to the CAS are normally the equivalent of a Canadian four-year honours undergraduate degree with a minimum C standing.  Note that students with three-year undergraduate degrees and B overall averages will also be considered.  Students entering the CAS must have an English language proficiency score of at least 92 on the TOEFL ibt or 6.5 on the IELTS.  As with the other programs, references, a resume, a personal statement and a personal interview are also required.
